Support & help›Can the hire car be delivered straight to the airport?
Some rental companies will bring the car to the terminal or an agreed meeting point for a fee. Look for the note “Delivery available” in the offer. Once your booking is confirmed, you agree the meeting point, time and flight number with the rental company.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Give your flight number when you send your request and contact the rental company if there's a major delay. How long they wait and whether this costs extra is up to each rental company. It's best to clarify this before booking, especially for late-evening arrivals.
Which car do I need for lots of luggage?
As a rule of thumb, a saloon is often enough for two people with large suitcases, while a people carrier is more comfortable from four travellers with luggage upwards. For groups of up to nine there are minibuses, which you can usually drive on a category B licence. With a full minibus, make sure there's still room for the cases.
Can I return the hire car at the airport?
That's up to the rental company. Some will collect the car at the airport for a fee, others expect it back at their own location. If the offer doesn't say, ask before booking and have the arrangement confirmed.
Are airport transfers with a driver available?

Drive yourself or be driven?
A hire car gives you flexibility, but you have to deal with parking, refuelling and the return, and at many airports even a short stop costs money. After a long-haul flight or with business partners, a transfer with a driver is often the more relaxed choice; some rental companies offer saloons and minibuses with a driver. Compare both options for your route.
Which vehicle suits your luggage?
Count your suitcases, hand luggage and bulky items such as a pushchair, golf bag or skis in advance. A saloon is usually fine for two travellers with large cases, while a people carrier or minibus is more relaxed for families and groups. Ask the rental company about child seats beforehand or bring your own. It's better to book one size up than to stack luggage at the terminal.
Share your flight number and allow for delays
Include your flight number and scheduled arrival time in your request. That way the rental company can react to delays if the handover takes place at the terminal. Clarify beforehand what happens if your flight lands very late or only the next day, and whether a handover outside opening hours is possible.
