Terms for rental companies

As of 1 Nov 2026Version vermieter-2026-11-01 Deutsche Fassung
This English translation is provided for information. The German version is legally binding. Read the German version

These terms apply to traders who rent out vehicles on Rentlo ("rental companies" or "you"). They supplement the terms of use, which also apply to you. In the event of contradictions, these terms take precedence. They implement Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 on promoting fairness and transparency for business users of online intermediation services (P2B Regulation). This version applies from 1 November 2026 (transition for existing rental companies: no. 18(2)).

At a glance

6 % service fee, nothing else. Registration, listings, Shorts and the rental company tools are free. Rentlo only keeps 6 % of paid bookings.

You rent, we connect. You conclude the rental contract directly with the customer. Rentlo takes care of reach, booking and payment.

Normal price, fair treatment. On Rentlo you do not offer your vehicles at a higher price than through your own channels, and you treat Rentlo customers like all other customers.

Cash payment possible. You can activate it per vehicle: the customer pays 10 % online, the rest in cash to you.

Rentlo Club only with opt-in. You only bear Club benefits such as Club discount, Club vouchers and car washes if you voluntarily become a Club partner (no. 4(8)).

Your images and videos bring you reach. By uploading, you grant Rentlo a free right of use to images, videos, sounds and texts, unlimited in time and territory: for the platform and for advertising, i.e. social media, paid ads, our website, app and newsletter (no. 6).

Your data stays with you. We do not pass anything on automatically to partners such as Hyghsoft, HyghFleet or ConnectPro. You connect your own software only after approval via the partner API (no. 6b, 6c).

Fair rules. Clear ranking, suspensions only with reasons, 30 days' notice before termination, free complaint handling.

Contents

1. Contracting party and requirements

(1) Your contracting party is M2 Innovations GbR (partners: Melik Dogru and Melih Deniz), Meisenweg 8, 53119 Bonn, Germany (Rentlo).

(2) Only those who act as traders and are entitled to rent out the vehicles offered commercially can become rental companies on Rentlo. On registration you provide your company name, legal form, representatives, business address, business email address and phone number, where applicable register and registration number, tax number or VAT ID, a business or register document, proof of identity of the authorised representative and a payout account set up with Stripe (no. 4(3)), and you confirm that you only offer lawful services.

(3) Rentlo checks this information with reasonable effort, for example using public registers and the evidence provided. If information is incomplete or there are justified doubts, we ask you to complete it; until then, listings may be withheld. Until our team has checked your business document and ID and your payout account has been set up, your listings and Shorts remain drafts. After that, we publish new listings and Shorts without prior manual review of each item, after the automated checks under § 18(3) of the terms of use (for example contact data filter, malware check, conversion); a human reviews reported content. No. 9 remains unaffected.

(4) We show customers your company name, legal form, representatives, business address, business contact details, register and VAT ID as mandatory information in the legal notice of your profile, in the "Contracting party" booking step and in the booking.

(5) As a platform operator, Rentlo is obliged under the German Platform Tax Transparency Act (PStTG) to report information about you and your revenue via Rentlo annually to the Federal Central Tax Office. For this purpose we collect the data provided for by law; we inform you about the report.

2. Rentlo's services

Rentlo publishes your listings, your profile and your Shorts, provides request, booking and payment processing, individual offers, chat, handover and return reports, calendar, statistics, discount campaigns, the Shorts studio, the rental company app with push notifications and, on request, an interface to your own software (partner API, no. 6b), promotes the platform and your offers and brings you customers. A specific turnover or number of bookings is not owed.

3. Rental terms

(1) You conclude rental contracts in your own name with the customer. They are based on your listing and your rental terms.

(2) A vehicle can only be booked once you have stored your own rental terms or have expressly adopted Rentlo's model rental terms with their version identifier. Rentlo never inserts model rental terms into your contracts without your adoption. You are responsible for the content of your rental terms.

(3) You state prices as final prices including VAT and all unavoidable costs. If you are a small business under section 19 of the German VAT Act, you indicate this in your details.

(4) In the listing you state completely which deposit you require and whether you accept it online (reservation via Rentlo) and/or on site; on site for example in cash, by debit card, by credit card or as a deposit of a vehicle with its vehicle title. You accept a deposit on site on your own responsibility and return it in accordance with the rental contract. An online reservation is only valid for a limited time; for rentals longer than it can cover (shown in the rental company area and in the booking process), the deposit is left on site. If you have only chosen the online deposit, you accept it on site for such rentals in cash, by debit card or by credit card.

(5) Before accepting a request, and at the latest before handover, you check the customer's ID and driving licence using the documents in the booking and the originals at handover, and confirm this in Rentlo ("Documents checked"). We store the time and account of the confirmation.

(6) Individual offers. You can send customers an individual offer in the chat or via a link. § 7(4a) of the terms of use applies; on acceptance, price, kilometres, deposit and services from the offer become part of the booking, and the service fee under no. 4(1) applies as for every booking. Discount campaigns do not apply to it.

4. Service fee and payout

(1) For every paid booking Rentlo receives a service fee of 6 % of the total amount paid by the customer (including additional services, delivery and protection packages booked via Rentlo; deposits are not subject to the service fee, including any amount retained or captured from a deposit). The statutory VAT on the service fee is included and shown on the service fee invoice. Different percentages only apply if they have been agreed with you individually in text form and are shown in your rental company area; an increase only applies in accordance with no. 16.

(2) There are no fees for registration, posting listings and Shorts, the rental company app and the partner API. Paid advertising ("Advertise") is optional and agreed separately.

(3) Customers pay via Rentlo. Rentlo accepts payment via the payment service provider Stripe in your name and for your account; the service fee is retained in the process. For payouts you need a verified Stripe account, which you set up via Rentlo; Stripe's terms also apply. Rentlo collects the details for your Stripe account and transmits them to Stripe; in doing so you accept the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. You keep these details up to date and provide missing details without undue delay on request. If negative balances arise on your Stripe account, for example from chargebacks or refunds for your bookings, and Rentlo settles them with Stripe, Rentlo may set the amount off against your next payouts or demand reimbursement from you, unless Rentlo is responsible for the negative balance.

(4) We trigger the payout to your bank account as soon as the rental has been completed or cancelled, at the latest two days after the end of the rental. Delays due to banks, the payment service provider or statutory checks are possible.

(5) If a booking is cancelled, the refund to the customer is governed by your cancellation rules. The service fee is refunded in proportion to the amount refunded.

(6) Discounts and benefits that Rentlo grants the customer (for example vouchers and promo codes sold or issued by Rentlo and credit from the best price guarantee) are borne by Rentlo; your payout amount is not reduced. You bear discounts from your own campaigns. Rentlo does not bear the benefits of the Rentlo Club; they only apply with Club partners, who bear them themselves under para. 8. Recourse under no. 14(4) remains reserved.

(7) Rentlo creates the invoice to the customer in your name and for your account. You receive an invoice from Rentlo for the service fee.

(8) Rentlo Club and Club partners. You only take part in the Rentlo Club if you expressly become a Club partner in the vendor area (opt-in). Participation is free of charge and can be ended at any time with effect for new bookings. As a Club partner you grant Club members the benefits of their Club level on bookings of your vehicles, including individual offers, and bear them yourself: the Club discount on the rental (currently 1 to 10 % depending on the level), discounts on extras, delivery and kilometre packages, full protection at no extra charge from the Platinum level, the redemption of Club vouchers and car washes and full tanks that Club members redeem with a rental from you. Club discounts and redeemed Club vouchers reduce your revenue from the booking concerned; the service fee (para. 1) is calculated on the amount the customer then pays. Rentlo does not compensate these benefits. We show you which benefits apply per level in the vendor area before you opt in; we notify you of changes to the Club benefits that cost you more in accordance with no. 16. Without opting in you bear no Club benefits; your customers still collect Club points.

4a. Cash payment

(1) You can activate cash payment for individual vehicles in your rental company area. Online payment remains the standard option for customers.

(2) If the customer chooses cash payment, they pay 10 % of the total price online as a down payment via Rentlo when booking. You collect the rest in cash at pick-up and give the customer a receipt. You may not demand a higher amount than the remaining amount shown in the booking process (§ 15(2) no. 2 of the terms of use).

(3) For cash payment, too, the service fee under no. 4(1) is calculated on the total price of the booking. Rentlo retains it from the down payment; we pay out the remaining part of the down payment to you in accordance with no. 4(4). If the down payment is exceptionally insufficient (for example after subsequent changes), we invoice you for the outstanding service fee or set it off against the next payout.

(4) You are responsible for cash, receipts, record-keeping and tax obligations (for example cash register rules). If the customer does not pay the remaining amount, you may refuse to hand over the vehicle; Rentlo is not liable for unpaid cash amounts.

(5) If a booking with cash payment is cancelled, your cancellation rules apply to the down payment; the service fee is refunded in proportion to the amount refunded.

5. Processing via Rentlo and ban on circumvention

(1) You process requests, bookings, payments, extensions and changes to rental transactions initiated via Rentlo via Rentlo. Cash payment of the remaining amount under no. 4a is permitted.

(2) Listings, profile texts, images, Shorts, stickers and chat messages before payment must not contain phone numbers, email addresses, links, messenger names or other information enabling contact outside Rentlo. Texts with such information cannot be saved; in the chat, a filter replaces them with a notice until payment. After payment or down payment, you and the customer see each other's contact details. The free message in an individual offer is subject to the same contact filter.

(3) In the event of violations, the contractual penalty under § 15 of the terms of use and the measures under no. 9 apply.

6. Rights of use to your images, videos and texts

In short: Rentlo may use everything you upload to Rentlo (images, videos, Shorts, sounds and texts) free of charge and without limits in time or territory: on the platform and to promote your offer and Rentlo, for example on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, in paid ads, on our website, in the app and in the newsletter. For this we may crop, shorten and subtitle the content and add music or our logo. You warrant that you hold the necessary rights, including the consent of people shown. Advertising materials already created remain usable after the contract ends.

(1) What you upload. This number applies to all content that you or your employees upload to Rentlo, create in the Shorts studio or transmit via the partner API: vehicle photos, videos, Shorts and image series, cover images, sounds and audio recordings (for example engine sounds), logos, profile and cover pictures as well as listing, vehicle and profile texts and captions ("content").

(2) Right of use. By uploading, you grant Rentlo a simple (non-exclusive), free of charge, transferable and sub-licensable right of use to this content, unlimited in territory and time (on transfer and sub-licences see paragraph 4). It includes the right to store, reproduce, distribute, broadcast, make publicly accessible and publicly communicate the content, namely

  1. on Rentlo itself (website, apps, Shorts feed, vehicle, rental company and city pages, search results),
  2. on Rentlo's own website and in Rentlo's own channels, for example home page, landing pages, blog, app store listings, newsletters and emails, presentations, trade fairs and print material,
  3. on social media (for example Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest) on Rentlo's profiles and channels, including as a post, story, reel or short video,
  4. for Rentlo's advertising and ads, online and offline, including paid ads on search engines, social networks, video platforms and ad networks,
  5. for press and public relations about Rentlo.

Rentlo uses the content to promote your offer, your vehicles and the Rentlo platform. Rentlo is not obliged to use content outside the platform.

(3) Editing. For this purpose Rentlo may edit the content to the extent customary for the respective use: crop, shorten, convert into other formats and aspect ratios, adjust colour and brightness, combine with other content, add subtitles, text overlays, music, logo and notices from Rentlo, remove or replace the sound, merge image series into videos, blur licence plates, faces or contact details, remove metadata and shorten or translate texts. We do not distort the message of your content and do not present your vehicle in a disparaging way. Attribution with every use is not owed; where it fits, we link to or name you or your vehicle.

(4) Transfer and sub-licences. Rentlo may transfer the right of use and grant simple rights of use to third parties to the extent necessary for use under paragraph 2: to technical service providers, to the operators of the platforms, networks and ad networks used (for example the licence a social network requires for uploading), to agencies and creatives who design or place advertising for Rentlo, and to a successor who takes over the operation of Rentlo. Your content is not sold to third parties for their own use.

(5) Duration and end of contract. The right of use is unlimited in time and continues after content is deleted or this contract ends. Rentlo may continue to use and run advertising materials created or published up to that point (for example posts, videos, ads, newsletters or print material). On the platform itself we hide deleted content. So that you stay in control, the following also applies: after the end of the contract, we will no longer use your content in new advertising materials that show your company name or logo if you inform us of this in text form. We are not obliged to delete posts already published on social media.

(6) Your warranty. You warrant that

  1. you hold all rights necessary for the grant under paragraphs 2 to 4, in particular to image, video, sound, music and text, even if a photographer, an agency or an employee made the recordings,
  2. all recognisable people (for example employees, customers, models) have consented to publication including for advertising purposes and on social media, for minors their parents, and that you inform us if a person withdraws their consent; we will then no longer use the content in new advertising materials and remove it from running ads as far as we can,
  3. licence plates of other vehicles and people without consent are not recognisable; licence plates of your own vehicles may be visible, but Rentlo may blur them,
  4. third-party brands and logos only appear as they are visible on the vehicle itself,
  5. you only use music with a licence that also covers advertising and social media; in case of doubt you upload videos without music,
  6. your content does not infringe third-party rights and does not contain contact details or prices (no. 5).

(7) Indemnity. You indemnify Rentlo against all third-party claims asserted against Rentlo because of an infringement of their rights by your content, insofar as you are responsible for the infringement. This includes the reasonable costs of legal defence. Rentlo informs you of such claims without undue delay and gives you the opportunity to comment. If you learn that rights are missing, you delete the content and inform us; we will then also remove it from running advertising materials as far as we can.

(8) Shorts studio and uploading. In the Shorts studio you can upload videos and image series, trim them, choose a cover image and add stickers. Every Short is linked to one of your vehicles. After you have been approved as a rental company (no. 1(3)), Shorts appear without prior manual review, after the automated checks (for example contact details in the caption, malware, conversion); a human reviews reported Shorts. § 16 to § 18 of the terms of use and the Rules for Shorts and comments apply. Before publishing, you confirm the rights confirmation in the version displayed; we store the version, time and account. When you upload photos and videos, the rental company area points you to this number.

(9) You see voting results per sticker in aggregated form once there are at least 5 votes; before that, only the number of votes. You do not learn who voted how. Accounts with rental company access cannot vote themselves.

6a. Translations

(1) Rentlo shows customers listings, vehicle and rental company descriptions in their language. You can write texts for each language yourself. If a text is missing in a language, Rentlo may have your text translated automatically (§ 16(4a) of the terms of use). The translation is covered by no. 6.

(2) We label automatic translations as "Automatically translated" with the option to display the original. In your rental company area you can view, edit, confirm as reviewed or switch off any translation. We remove contact details before translation. You remain responsible for the content of your original texts; you are not liable for translation errors you have not confirmed.

(3) We do not release pages in another language that only contain an automatic translation to search engines; only texts written or confirmed by you are released.

6b. Partner API and connecting your software

(1) Via the partner API you can connect your own software (for example fleet management such as HyghFleet, accounting or calendar) to Rentlo: maintain vehicles, prices and blocked periods and retrieve bookings or receive them via webhook. The technical documentation and the limits stated there apply.

(2) Approval. You apply for access in your rental company area with a short statement of the purpose. The Rentlo team reviews the application and approves it or rejects it with reasons. Only after approval can you create access keys and webhooks and choose which areas (availability, bookings, vehicles, webhooks) the key may use. Rentlo may restrict or withdraw an approval for good cause (no. 9).

(3) You keep access keys secret. Everything done with your key is deemed to have been initiated by you. In the event of misuse or security risks, Rentlo may block a key; we inform you with reasons.

(4) Via the interface you receive the booking data of your own bookings to the same extent as in the rental company area (no. 12), i.e. without the customer's contact details before payment. You are the controller under data protection law for processing this data in your software. If you engage a software provider (for example Hyghsoft with HyghFleet), it is your processor; you conclude the necessary contract under Art. 28 GDPR with it. You do not receive data of other rental companies.

6c. Partner offers in the rental company area

(1) In the rental company area we present offers from partners under "More management & network", for example HyghFleet (fleet management by Hyghsoft), GPS and black boxes (telematics by Hyghsoft), ConnectPro (network for rental companies) and car purchase. If you use such an offer, you conclude the contract directly with the partner; its terms and privacy notices apply. Rentlo is not a party to that contract.

(2) Rentlo does not pass on any data to partners automatically. A partner only receives data from Rentlo if you initiate it, for example by connecting its software via the partner API (no. 6b) or by filling in an enquiry form that we expressly forward to the partner. Rentlo does not receive telematics, location or vehicle data from a black box from partners.

(3) Rentlo's partners receive no advantages over other rental companies in search and feed (no. 13(4)).

7. Advertising and labelling

(1) We label paid advertising on Rentlo as "Ad" and name the advertiser.

(2) You state discount campaigns as a percentage or amount reduction. We only show a crossed-out comparison price if it corresponds to the lowest price in the 30 days before the start of the campaign.

8. Ranking: how we determine the order

(1) Search, default sorting "Recommended". The order results successively from these main parameters:

  1. match with the search term (brand, model, category, equipment),
  2. participation in the Rentlo Club programme "Club partner" (free of charge, opt-in in the vendor area; Club partners grant Club members the Club benefits under no. 4(8) depending on their level and bear them themselves),
  3. running discount campaign for the vehicle (own campaign or participation in a Rentlo campaign),
  4. average rating of the rental company,
  5. distance to the location searched.

The first parameter carries the most weight; each further parameter only decides if the previous ones are equal. Vehicles that are not available for the selected period or do not meet the filters do not appear. Customers can instead sort by price, distance, power, rating, year of manufacture or newest.

(2) Shorts feed. Approved Shorts are shown, filtered by city, category, topic or language if the customer selects them. Shorts editorially highlighted by the Rentlo team appear first, then the newest; Shorts of Club partners are shown slightly more often. Ads are labelled as such and shown between the Shorts.

(3) Trust score and badges. From reviews (30 points), response time (20), reliability, i.e. cancellations by you (20), acceptance rate (10), verification by Rentlo (10), experience (5) and profile completeness (5) we calculate a score from 0 to 100 with level and badge. It is based on the last 180 days. We provide the score with its components and tips for improvement in your rental company area. The score does not influence sorting.

(4) Fees. You cannot influence the order in search and feed for payment. The amount of service fee and the payment type (online or cash) have no influence on ranking. A discount campaign has an effect under paragraph 1 no. 3 because it lowers the price for customers; participation as a Club partner has an effect under paragraph 1 no. 2. Paid ads are labelled as "Ad" and are not part of the sorting.

9. Restriction, suspension and termination

(1) Rentlo may hide individual listings or Shorts, restrict visibility, limit functions (for example cash payment or the partner API) or temporarily suspend your account if there is a violation of these terms, the terms of use or the law or there are justified doubts about your information.

(2) We inform you of a restriction or suspension in text form at the latest when it takes effect, stating the specific facts and the reason.

(3) We inform you of a complete termination of our services in text form with reasons at least 30 days in advance. We may only terminate without notice if we are obliged to do so by law or by the authorities, there is good cause under section 314 BGB or you have repeatedly violated these terms.

(4) In any case you can clarify the matter via the complaint procedure (no. 11). If it turns out that the measure was unjustified, we lift it without undue delay.

10. Term and termination by you

(1) The contract runs for an indefinite period. You can terminate it at any time without notice in text form.

(2) After termination you still carry out bookings already paid, unless the customer agrees to a cancellation. Outstanding payouts and service fees are then settled. No. 6(5) applies to your content.

11. Internal complaint-handling system

(1) You can send complaints, in particular about restrictions, suspensions, ranking, service fee or technical problems, free of charge to info@rentlo.de or via the chat with Rentlo partner support.

(2) We confirm receipt, review your complaint swiftly, taking into account its importance and complexity, and inform you of the outcome in text form.

(3) We are willing to work with a mediator for an out-of-court settlement under Art. 12 of the P2B Regulation. Your right to go to court remains unaffected.

12. Data access

(1) You have access to all data you post yourself and to the data of your bookings that is necessary for their performance. You see the customer's contact details and exact delivery and return addresses after payment or down payment; before that, first name, initial of the last name, verification status and number of previous rentals.

(2) You only receive statistics on your vehicles and Shorts in aggregated form: for example views, requests, bookings, likes and voting results from 5 votes per sticker. You do not receive data on the usage behaviour of individual customers.

(3) Rentlo uses data from your bookings and listings in aggregated form to operate and improve the platform, for example for market overviews, price and demand statistics and acquiring new customers. We do not pass on data about individual rental companies to other rental companies.

(4) After the end of the contract we provide you with your booking and payout data on request. After that we only keep it to the extent required by law.

(5) You only use customer data for the respective booking and your legal obligations. Advertising to Rentlo customers outside Rentlo is not permitted without their consent.

13. Differentiated treatment

(1) Rentlo does not itself offer vehicles for rent.

(2) Rentlo sells its own services (gift vouchers and gift kilometres), operates the Rentlo Club and runs its own campaigns. Rentlo does not sell Club benefits; they are granted and borne by the Club partners (no. 4(8)). These are not given preference over your offers in search and feed. Rentlo campaigns in which you participate have an effect under no. 8(1) no. 3; participation is open to all rental companies on the same terms.

(3) We select Shorts that the Rentlo team highlights editorially according to quality and suitability for customers, not for payment. The same applies to content we use on social media or in advertising under no. 6.

(4) Rentlo's partners (for example Hyghsoft, Central Car or providers on our partner pages) receive no advantages over other rental companies in search and feed.

14. Normal price, best price guarantee and fair treatment

(1) Normal price. You offer your vehicles on Rentlo at your normal price. This means: the total price on Rentlo for the same vehicle, the same period and the same conditions (included mileage, excess, deposit, extras, pick-up and return location) is not higher than the price you publicly offer through your own direct sales channels, i.e. on your own website, by phone or in your shop. You do not add Rentlo's service fee separately.

(2) Other platforms. You are free in your pricing on other platforms and third-party sales channels.

(3) Fair treatment. You do not treat customers who book via Rentlo worse than your other customers: same vehicle quality and cleanliness, same handover and return standards, no additional fees or conditions on site that are not in the listing, and the promised availability. You only cancel confirmed bookings for good cause.

(4) Best price guarantee. Towards customers Rentlo gives the best price guarantee and compensates price differences as credit. If the compensation is due to you having offered a lower price on your own channels contrary to paragraph 1, Rentlo may set off the compensation paid against your next payout; we give you the opportunity to comment beforehand. In all other cases Rentlo bears the compensation.

(5) Remedy. If we find a violation of paragraph 1 or 3, we first ask you to remedy it. In the event of repeated or serious violations, the measures under no. 9 apply.

15. Liability

§ 20 of the terms of use applies. You indemnify Rentlo against third-party claims arising from your listings, content, Shorts, rental contracts, cash payments, deposits on site or the breach of your obligations, insofar as you are responsible for the infringement.

16. Changes to these terms

(1) We inform you of changes to these terms in text form at least 15 days before they take effect. If the changes require technical or commercial adjustments on your part, the period is correspondingly longer.

(2) You can terminate the contract before the period expires; termination takes effect within 15 days of receipt of the notification. If you submit new listings or Shorts after the notification, this is deemed acceptance unless you terminate.

(3) The period does not apply if a legal or regulatory obligation requires a short-term change or a change is necessary to address an unforeseen and imminent danger to the platform, customers or other users.

17. Processing on behalf

If you use Rentlo tools for your own purposes outside Rentlo bookings (for example the calendar for bookings from other channels or the team function), Rentlo processes this data on your behalf and in accordance with your instructions (Art. 28 GDPR). We do not use it for our own purposes.

18. Final provisions

(1) § 24 and § 25 of the terms of use apply. Place of jurisdiction is Bonn.

(2) This version applies to new rental companies from its publication. For rental companies registered before, it applies in accordance with no. 16 from 15 November 2026 unless they terminate beforehand; until then the previous version (vermieter-2026-10) applies. The 6 % service fee applies to all rental companies already now, insofar as it is lower than a rate previously agreed.
