Support & help
Where is Halver?

Halver is located in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. Neighbouring places are Schalksmühle, Kierspe, Breckerfeld and Lüdenscheid.

How much does it cost in Halver?

Within 50 km there are currently 76 matching vehicles, from €69 a day.

Can the car be delivered in Halver?

Many rental companies offer delivery and collection. Filter by “delivery” in the search; price and radius are shown on the vehicle.

How much does a rental car for expats cost in Halver?

On Rentlo, rental cars around Halver currently start at €69 a day. For your first weeks, a weekly or monthly rental is often worthwhile, as many rental companies lower the daily rate for longer rentals. You'll see the deposit, included mileage and extras before you send a request.

Can I rent a car with my foreign driving licence?

Often yes, as long as your licence is valid in Germany, Austria or Switzerland and the rental company accepts it. For licences from outside the EU, many rental companies also require an International Driving Permit or a translation, plus a minimum number of years of driving experience. It's best to ask the rental company before booking.

How long can I drive with a non-EU licence?

Deadlines apply once you take up residence: usually six months in Germany and Austria and generally twelve months in Switzerland. After that, you often need to exchange your licence, with or without a test depending on the issuing country. Only the responsible driving licence authority can give you a binding answer.

Do I need a registration certificate to rent a car?

Not every rental company requires one, but some ask for a local address or proof of it. If you haven't registered yet, your passport and driving licence are often enough, but it's up to the rental company. Check briefly in advance, especially for longer rentals.

Can I pay the deposit without a credit card?

With some rental companies, yes. Depending on the car, the deposit can be paid online via PayPal or bank transfer, or in cash at pick-up, and some offers come with no deposit at all. The accepted options are shown in every offer, and you can filter by them in the app.

Is a monthly rental worth it instead of buying a car?

For your first months it can make sense: you skip buying, registering, insuring and later selling a car, and you stay flexible. If you're staying longer, compare the total costs. A monthly rental over 28 days or a car subscription gives you time to decide without pressure.

What is Rentlo?

Rentlo is a marketplace for all kinds of rental vehicles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You rent directly from verified local rental companies.

Guide

Monthly rental or subscription instead of buying

As long as you don't know how long you'll stay or where you'll live, owning a car can be an unnecessary commitment. A monthly rental over 28 days keeps you flexible; with a car subscription, insurance and maintenance are often included, depending on the provider. Also get to know the local rules, such as low-emission zones, winter tyres in wintry conditions and the motorway vignette in Austria and Switzerland.

Is your driving licence still valid?

Licences issued in EU and EEA countries generally remain valid in Germany and Austria. For licences from other countries, deadlines start once you take up residence (usually six months), after which an exchange is often required. In Switzerland, foreign licences, including EU ones, generally have to be exchanged within twelve months. The rules depend on the issuing country, and only the local driving licence authority (in Germany the Führerscheinstelle, in Switzerland the Strassenverkehrsamt) can give you a binding answer. Look into it early, as appointments can take time.

Documents the rental company may ask for

You'll usually need a valid driving licence, an ID card or passport and a means of payment for the rental and the deposit. If your licence isn't in the Latin alphabet or not in EU format, many rental companies also require an International Driving Permit or an official translation. Some may ask for a registration certificate (Meldebescheinigung) or a local address. Clarify this before pick-up to avoid surprises at handover.
