Support & help›Where is Modautal?

Many rental companies offer delivery and collection. Filter by “delivery” in the search; price and radius are shown on the vehicle.
Can I rent a car as a new driver in Modautal?
Yes, around Modautal there are rental companies that rent cars to young drivers with little experience. How long you need to have held your licence is shown with every offer. The “Licence held since” filter shows you only matching cars.
How much does a rental car for new drivers cost?
Matching cars around Modautal currently start at €100 a day. A young driver surcharge and a protection package may be added. You'll see the total price before you send your request.
Can I rent a car during my probationary period?
In principle, yes: the probationary period itself doesn't prevent you from renting. What matters is the minimum age and licence duration set by the rental company. Keep in mind the stricter probation rules, for example on alcohol.
What is the minimum time I need to have held my licence?
That varies by rental company and car. Often it's one to three years, less for some small cars, more for powerful ones. You'll find the exact requirement in the offer.
What does code 78 on my driving licence mean?
Code 78 means you may only drive cars with automatic transmission because you took your test in an automatic. In that case, make sure you rent an automatic. In Germany, code 197 lets you drive manual cars too after additional training, despite an automatic test.
Do I need a protection package as a new driver?
It's only mandatory if the rental company requires it. It often makes sense anyway, because the excess for young drivers is frequently higher. Smart or Sorglos lowers it.
What is Rentlo?
Rentlo is a marketplace for all kinds of rental vehicles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You rent directly from verified local rental companies.

Guide
Rules during the probationary period
In Germany the probationary period lasts two years, in Switzerland three, and Austria also has a probationary licence. New drivers in Germany are subject to a strict zero-alcohol rule; in Austria and Switzerland the limit during probation is 0.1 per mille. Offences can lead to mandatory courses and an extended probationary period.
Protection package and handover
A protection package such as Smart or Sorglos lowers the excess and therefore your risk with minor damage. Photograph the car all round at handover and have existing damage noted in the report. Ask how the lights, driver assistance systems and fuel flap work. It saves stress on the road.
What rental companies require from new drivers
Besides the minimum age, the licence duration counts: many rental companies require one to three years of driving experience, less for some cars. A surcharge may apply for young drivers, and the excess is often higher. All terms are shown with the offer, and the “Licence held since” filter helps you choose.
