Support & help›How old do I have to be to rent a car?
Each rental company decides for itself. Many rent out small cars from 18 or 21, while the limit for executive cars, sports cars or large vans is often higher. The minimum age and required years of holding a licence are listed with every offer.
Can I rent a car without a deposit?
Yes, some rental companies offer cars without a deposit. You'll find them using the deposit type filter. For all other offers, you pay the deposit online by credit card, PayPal or bank transfer, or at pick-up, and with some companies also in cash.
How does booking on Rentlo work?
You choose a car and dates and send a request to the rental company. Once it's confirmed, you pay the rental price with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna or card, for example. The rental contract is concluded directly with the rental company.
Can I take the rental car abroad?
Each rental company has its own rules. Trips to neighbouring countries are often allowed, sometimes only by prior arrangement or with a cross-border authorisation for a fee. Clarify your destination before booking and remember the motorway vignette, for example in Austria and Switzerland.
Can I cancel the rental free of charge?
Each rental company sets its own cancellation terms, usually staggered by how long before the start of the rental you cancel. You can expand them in every offer. Read them before sending your request so you know what a cancellation would cost.

Deposit, mileage and protection package
Every offer shows how many kilometres are included, how high the deposit is and how you pay it: online, at pick-up or, with some rental companies, not at all. An optional protection package reduces your excess if there's damage. Read the cancellation terms before you send a request, as they differ from company to company.
Practical tip for pick-up and return
Inspect the car together with the rental company at handover and take photos of any existing scratches. Agree on the fuel or charge level you should return it with. Allow a little buffer when returning the car, as being late can lead to extra charges.
How much does a rental car cost?
The price mainly depends on the vehicle class, rental period and dates. Small cars are usually the cheapest, while weekends and school holidays are often pricier than ordinary weekdays. Many rental companies lower the daily rate for longer rentals. Factor in extras such as an additional driver, delivery or a protection package right away.
