Often on weekdays and outside school holidays and public holidays, when demand is lower. A longer rental period also lowers the daily rate with many rental companies. There's no fixed rule, though: every rental company sets its own prices.
Is it worth booking early?
Usually yes, especially during school holidays and on long weekends. Requesting early gives you more choice and a better chance of getting one of the cheaper cars. Short-notice bargains are still possible, for example through deals.
What should I watch out for with very cheap offers?
Check the included mileage, the deposit, the excess and the cancellation terms. A low daily rate with few kilometres can end up more expensive than a slightly higher rate with more kilometres. Reviews from other customers also help you assess an offer.
Does a protection package make sense for a cheap rental car?
That depends on how much risk you're willing to take. Without extra cover, you pay for damage yourself up to the agreed excess. The Basis, Smart and Sorglos protection packages lower this excess. Compare the extra cost and the potential saving calmly.
Are there discounts for longer rentals?

How to save on your rental car
Demand is often lower on weekdays than at weekends or on public holidays, and you'll notice it in the price. For longer rentals, many rental companies lower the daily rate with a multi-day discount, so a week can be cheaper than several individual days. Requesting early gives you more choice, especially during school holidays. Also check the deals in the app regularly.
Choose mileage, fuel and protection wisely
Estimate your route realistically in advance: if the included mileage isn't enough, every extra kilometre gets expensive, and a mileage package is usually cheaper. Return the car with the agreed fuel level, otherwise refuelling charges may apply. As for protection: a higher package costs more but lowers the excess, so weigh up how much risk you're willing to take.
Compare the real total price
A low daily rate on its own says little. Factor in included mileage, deposit, additional driver, delivery and protection package before you decide.
