Winter tyres: the rules in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Germany has a situational winter tyre requirement: in snow, ice or slippery conditions you need tyres with the Alpine symbol. In Austria, a situational winter equipment requirement applies from 1 November to 15 April. Switzerland has no general obligation, but if you cause an accident on unsuitable tyres, you can face consequences for liability and insurance. Snow chains, all-wheel drive and equipment
