Support & help›Can I shoot social media content with a rental car?
That's up to the rental company. Private photos are usually not a problem, but for videos with a large reach or paid partnerships you should agree the usage explicitly. Mention your plans in your request and have the approval confirmed.
Can I tag the rental company in my post?
Ask first. Some rental companies are happy to be linked, others prefer not to be named. If you get a discount or other benefits in return, the post generally has to be labelled as advertising.
Does the number plate need to be blurred in the video?
Agree this with the rental company. Many prefer the number plate not to be recognisable. In that case, blur it in post-production or choose angles where it isn't visible.
Are drifting or acceleration videos allowed?
No. Drifting, burnouts, races and risky manoeuvres are generally excluded in rental contracts, dangerous on public roads and can be a criminal offence. Breaking these rules can lead to high costs, loss of insurance cover and legal consequences.
How long should I rent the car for a shoot?
For filming at one location, an hourly rental of 8 hours is often enough. If you're planning several locations, driving scenes or shots at different times of day, a daily rental is more relaxed. Allow a buffer for set-up, weather and light.

Location and permits
On private property you need the owner's permission; for filming on public roads or squares, a permit from the city may be required depending on the scale. Never close roads on your own. Mind passers-by in the frame, as they also have rights to their own image. Separate rules apply to drone footage.
Planning time and costs
Allow plenty of time for set-up, changing light and moving between locations, as standing time counts as rental time. For a short shoot, an hourly rental is often enough; for several locations, a full day is better. Keep an eye on the included mileage if you're driving between locations. If a rental company gives you benefits in return for your post, you generally have to label it as advertising.
Clarify usage and rights in advance
Tell the rental company in your request that you're shooting photos or videos for social media and whether the content will be used commercially, for example in a paid partnership. Clarify whether you may tag or link the rental company and whether the number plate should be visible or blurred. Trademark rights can come into play with logos and brand names in advertising. Put the agreements in writing.
