Frequently asked questions
No answer here? Our support is there for you around the clock.
Support & help›Can I publish the video featuring the rental car?
You need to clarify this with the rental company in advance. Because music videos are public and sometimes monetised, separate conditions often apply, for example regarding number plates, credits or a surcharge. Get their consent in writing.
Are drifts or burnouts allowed?
No. Drifts, burnouts, doughnuts and similar manoeuvres are excluded in rental contracts and prohibited on public roads anyway. Breaches can lead to high costs and the loss of insurance cover.
Do I need a permit for the shoot?
For filming in public spaces with equipment, closures or driving scenes, usually yes. The city or municipality is responsible. On private property such as car parks or industrial sites, you need the owner's permission. Allow some lead time for this.
Who is allowed to drive the car in the video?
Only people who meet the rental company's requirements and are registered as the driver. For very valuable cars, some rental companies use their own driver. Even if the artist only sits behind the wheel while the car is stationary, agree it beforehand.
What is Rentlo?
Rentlo is a marketplace for all kinds of rental vehicles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You rent directly from verified local rental companies.
How does renting in Germany, Austria and Switzerland work?
Choose a vehicle, pick your dates and send a request. Once the rental company confirms, you pay securely online and collect the car or have it delivered.
When do I pay?
Only once the rental company has confirmed your request. Payment runs via Stripe.
Which payment methods are available?
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay, iDEAL and Klarna. For some vehicles you can pay 10 % online and the rest in cash at pick-up.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
The rental company decides per vehicle. Many deposits can be paid online; otherwise on site.
How old do I need to be?
Minimum age and licence duration are shown on each vehicle.
Show all 14 questions
How is the vehicle insured?
Vehicles are insured by the rental company, which sets cover and excess.
What is the best price guarantee?
Rental companies offer their vehicles on Rentlo at the same price as directly. Found it cheaper? Let us know.
Can I cancel?
Before confirmation you can withdraw for free. After that the rental company's cancellation terms apply.
Is there a Rentlo app?
Yes, for iPhone and Android, including Rentlo Shorts with real videos and sound.
Guide
Filming permits and locations
Depending on the scale, filming in public spaces requires a permit from the city or municipality, and on private property you need the owner's permission. Car parks, industrial sites and underground garages are popular but almost always belong to someone. If the rental company delivers the car, clarify access and timings with them as well.
Clarify publication and commercial use
A music video usually ends up on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok and is sometimes monetised. So tell the rental company in advance that the car will appear in a published video. Check whether number plates may be visible and whether the rental company would like to be credited. Put the agreement in writing.
No drifting, no burnouts
Spinning tyres and clouds of smoke look spectacular on video but are excluded in rental contracts and can be expensive. The same applies to jumps, dancing on the bonnet or roof and pyrotechnics close to the car. You can create impact with lighting, haze kept at a distance, slow motion and good camera angles.
