Support & help›How long is an hourly rental?
On Rentlo, the hourly rate covers 8 hours from the agreed pick-up time. If you need the vehicle for longer, a daily rental is usually the better choice. Time blocks shorter than 8 hours are not shown as a separate price in the app.
What happens if I return the car late?
The rental company may then charge extra: depending on the terms, a surcharge per hour or the daily rate. Let them know early if you realise you won't make it. Sometimes the rental can be extended if the vehicle isn't booked straight afterwards.
Can I rent a van by the hour?
Yes. Vans in particular are often needed for just a few hours, for example to buy furniture or for a small move. The price tiles show whether a vehicle has an hourly rate. With a category B licence, you can drive vans up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight.
Do I need to pay a deposit for an hourly rental?
Usually yes, as the deposit depends on the vehicle, not the rental period. Depending on the offer, you pay it online or at pick-up, or rent without a deposit where the rental company offers this. It is released again after the return.
Can I rent by the hour on the same day?
That's possible if a vehicle is available and the rental company confirms your request in time. Being flexible with the time helps with short-notice bookings. Vans in particular get booked up quickly on Saturdays, so it pays to send your request early.

What does hourly rental mean on Rentlo?
The hourly rate is a fixed block of 8 hours from pick-up and appears as its own price tile for eligible vehicles. Not every rental company offers it. If the tile is missing, the normal daily rate applies. For short jobs like buying furniture, a move within the city or an appointment, the block is usually plenty.
Stick to the return time
With short rentals, every quarter of an hour counts. Allow a buffer for traffic, finding a parking space and refuelling before the return. If you're late, you'll pay a surcharge or the full daily rate, depending on the rental company. If you notice on the way that time is getting tight, call the rental company in advance.
Which vehicles are suitable?
Hourly rentals are mostly vans and small vans for furniture, bulky waste or moving boxes. With a standard category B licence, you can drive vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, which covers most vans. Estate cars for a big shop or special cars for a photo shoot are popular too. Deposit and minimum age apply just as with any other rental.
