Support & help
Can I rent a car for today?

That's possible if the car is free and the rental company confirms your request in time. There's no instant confirmation. The earlier in the day you request and the more flexible you are with the pick-up time, the better your chances.

How quickly does the rental company respond?

That varies from rental company to rental company. Mention in your request that it's urgent and keep your phone at hand in case the rental company has questions. If there are problems, Rentlo Support can help.

Which documents do I need at pick-up?

Usually your valid driving licence, an ID card or passport and the means of payment for the rental and deposit. With a licence from a country outside the EU, an International Driving Permit may also be required. The exact requirements are in the rental company's terms.

Is a short-notice rental more expensive?

Not necessarily. Prices depend on the rental company, the car and demand. At weekends and on public holidays, the short-notice choice is often smaller; on weekdays your chances are usually better.

Can the rental car be delivered at short notice?

Some rental companies offer delivery, indicated by the note “Delivery available”. Whether it works at short notice depends on the rental company's schedule. Include your address and preferred time in your request.

What happens if I have to cancel at short notice?

Then the rental company's cancellation terms apply, which are staggered by date. For bookings with little lead time, cancellation costs often apply sooner. So read the terms before sending your request.

Guide

Pick-up times and delivery

Small rental companies often have fixed opening hours, and a handover in the evening or on a Sunday isn't always possible. So ask when you can collect the car and allow some buffer time. Some rental companies will bring the car to you for a fee. Look for the note “Delivery available” in the offer.

Price and cancellation for short-notice rentals

Short-notice rentals are not automatically more expensive or cheaper: it depends on the rental company and demand. Compare the daily rate, included mileage and deposit as you would for any other booking. Read the cancellation terms too: they are staggered by date, and for very short-notice bookings the later stages usually apply already.

How to make a short-notice request work

First check the car's calendar to see whether your dates are free. In your request, state the exact pick-up time and whether you're flexible. Once you've found a suitable car, decide quickly, as short-notice slots go fast. The booking only applies once the rental company has confirmed it.
