Support & help
Do I have to charge a hybrid car?

Not a full hybrid, as it charges itself while driving and braking. You can charge a plug-in hybrid to cover short distances electrically, but it also runs normally with an empty battery. The offer shows which type of hybrid it is.

Do hybrid cars have automatic gearboxes?

Most hybrid cars have an automatic gearbox, which makes it easier for the electric motor and combustion engine to work together. That makes hybrids a good choice for drivers with an automatic-only licence. The type of gearbox is listed in the vehicle details.

Is a hybrid more economical than a regular petrol car?

Yes, especially in city traffic, because the electric motor helps when pulling away and braking energy is recovered. On the motorway at high speed, the difference is smaller. How much you save depends heavily on the route and your driving style.

Which hybrid cars can I rent?

Typical examples include the Toyota Corolla, Yaris or C-HR as full hybrids and the BMW 330e, Mercedes C 300 e or VW Golf eHybrid as plug-in hybrids. Which models are available near you depends on local rental companies. The results show you the current selection.

Is a hybrid suitable for long journeys?

Yes, because unlike a fully electric car you don't need to plan charging stops; you simply refuel as usual. On longer trips, keep an eye on the kilometres included per day and add a mileage package if needed.

Can I drive a hybrid into a low-emission zone?

Petrol hybrids generally meet the requirements for the green sticker and can therefore enter German low-emission zones. Other countries have their own rules on driving restrictions, so check before travelling abroad.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

The rental company decides per vehicle. Many deposits can be paid online; otherwise on site.

How old do I need to be?

Minimum age and licence duration are shown on each vehicle.

How is the vehicle insured?

Vehicles are insured by the rental company, which sets cover and excess.

What is the best price guarantee?

Rental companies offer their vehicles on Rentlo at the same price as directly. Found it cheaper? Let us know.

Can I cancel?

Before confirmation you can withdraw for free. After that the rental company's cancellation terms apply.

Guide

Getting the most out of the fuel savings

Hybrids play to their strengths where you brake and pull away often: in city traffic and on winding country roads. Drive with anticipation and let the car coast, and the battery recovers energy. On long motorway stretches at high speed, the advantage over an economical petrol or diesel car is smaller.

Fuel and charging at return

Check the fuel policy in advance. Often the rule is to return it as full as you received it. With plug-in hybrids, also ask whether a charging cable is included and whether the battery should be returned charged. Charging pays off for you too, because you drive more on electricity and save fuel.

Ideal for commuters and test drives

If you're thinking about buying a hybrid, renting one for several days lets you test it in everyday life: commuting, shopping, a weekend trip. That way you'll find out how fuel consumption and driving feel really compare. Many rental companies lower the daily rate if you rent for longer.
