Support & help
What is a picture car?

It's the term for a vehicle that appears on screen, as opposed to production vehicles that transport crew and equipment. Typical picture cars are classic cars, modern classics, American cars or sports cars that match the period or mood of the story.

Is the car insured during filming?

The rental car's insurance primarily covers normal road use. For filming, additional cover may be needed, for example through production insurance. Be sure to clarify this with the rental company before the shoot and get it confirmed in writing.

Are stunts allowed with a rental car?

No. Stunts, drifting, burnouts and crash scenes are excluded in rental contracts. Normal driving scenes are usually possible by arrangement, often with a driver from the rental company. For spectacular scenes you need specialist stunt providers.

Do I need a filming permit?

For filming in public spaces, generally yes, and the city or municipality is usually responsible. Road closures or shots in moving traffic involve further requirements. On private property, you need the owner's permission.

Can I get an invoice for my production company?

The rental contract is concluded directly with the rental company, so the invoice is issued by the rental company. Whether it can be made out to your company and which details are needed is best clarified in your request.

Which payment methods are available?

Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay, iDEAL and Klarna. For some vehicles you can pay 10 % online and the rest in cash at pick-up.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

The rental company decides per vehicle. Many deposits can be paid online; otherwise on site.

Show all 15 questions
How old do I need to be?

Minimum age and licence duration are shown on each vehicle.

How is the vehicle insured?

Vehicles are insured by the rental company, which sets cover and excess.

What is the best price guarantee?

Rental companies offer their vehicles on Rentlo at the same price as directly. Found it cheaper? Let us know.

Can I cancel?

Before confirmation you can withdraw for free. After that the rental company's cancellation terms apply.

Is there a Rentlo app?

Yes, for iPhone and Android, including Rentlo Shorts with real videos and sound.

Guide

The rental company's own driver

For valuable classic cars or sports cars, some rental companies require their own driver to be at the wheel. That has advantages: the driver knows the car, and your cast can focus on the scene. If someone from your team drives, they must meet the requirements and be registered as the driver.

Filming permits and number plates

For filming in public spaces you usually need a permit from the city or municipality, and for road closures further traffic orders may be required depending on the location. Allow a few weeks' lead time. You may only cover or swap number plates on closed-off ground, never on public roads.

Production vehicles and invoicing

Besides picture cars, a shoot often needs vans for equipment and minibuses for the crew. Check the load space, number of seats and whether the vehicles can be driven on a category B licence. Clarify in advance whether the rental company issues an invoice to the production company and which deposit methods are possible.
