Support & help›What exactly is a saloon?
A saloon (sedan in American English) is a car with a fixed roof and usually a separate boot; fastbacks are often included too. Typical examples are the Mercedes C-Class and E-Class, BMW 3 Series and 5 Series or Audi A4 and A6. In German, this body style is called Limousine.
Can I rent a stretch limousine on Rentlo?
Stretch limousines have their own category on Rentlo. This page shows classic saloons to drive yourself. If you're looking for a party vehicle with a lounge for a group, take a look at the stretch limousines.
Is a saloon a good wedding car?
Yes, an elegant saloon is a popular bridal car or vehicle for the guests. Ask the rental company whether flower decorations are allowed and book early for summer dates. Some rental companies also offer a driver.
How old do I have to be to rent a saloon?
That depends on the rental company and the model. A lower minimum age is often enough for mid-size saloons, while for powerful or luxury models it's frequently 23 to 25. The exact requirements are listed with every offer.
Are there electric saloons?
Yes, for example the Tesla Model 3 or electric models from other manufacturers. You can see in the list whether an electric car is available. Check with the rental company how the charge level on return and charging on the road are handled.
Is a saloon suitable for business trips?
Very much so: saloons are quiet, comfortable over long distances and look professional to clients. Check in advance whether the invoice can be issued to your company. If colleagues are travelling with you and will drive, add them as additional drivers.

Guide
Saloon or stretch limo?
In German, Limousine simply means a car with a separate boot or a sloping fastback, such as a C-Class or 5 Series. In everyday speech, though, the word is also used for stretch limousines with a bar and lounge. If you want to celebrate with a group, look specifically at stretch limos.
Choosing the right size
Saloons range from the mid-size to the luxury class. For business trips, a model such as the C-Class, 3 Series or A4 is often enough; for prestigious appointments, an E-Class, 5 Series or A6 is more suitable. If you're driving guests in the back, an executive or luxury saloon is the better choice.
Boot and luggage
A saloon's boot is often large, but the narrow opening makes it less flexible than an estate's. Bulky items such as pushchairs or bicycles are harder to fit. With lots of luggage, an estate or a Sportback with a large tailgate is more practical.
