Typical examples include the VW Passat, Skoda Octavia and Superb, BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class. They're larger and more comfortable than compact cars but don't yet belong to the executive class. The list shows which models are available.
Is a mid-size car suitable for families?
Yes, four people travel comfortably in one, and as an estate it also takes plenty of holiday luggage. If you need a child seat, ask the rental company whether it provides one. For more than five people, a people carrier or seven-seater is the better choice.
How old do I have to be to rent a mid-size car?
Each rental company sets its own minimum age; in the mid-size class it's often a little higher than for small cars, especially for powerful models. A minimum period of holding a licence usually applies as well. The requirements are listed with every offer.
Can I rent a mid-size car for a business trip?
Of course. The mid-size class is popular with business travellers. Check with the rental company beforehand whether the invoice can be made out to your company. Colleagues travelling with you who will also drive should be added as additional drivers.
How many kilometres are included?
That varies from offer to offer and is shown right next to the price as “km included”. For long distances, a mileage package or an offer with plenty of included kilometres often pays off. Compare what each extra kilometre costs before you send a request.

Business trips: invoice and additional drivers
If you're renting for your company, make sure the invoice can be issued in the company's name. Ask the rental company if in doubt. If several colleagues will drive, add them as additional drivers; this usually costs extra per day. As a rule, insurance cover only applies to registered drivers.
Who is a mid-size car right for?
A mid-size car pays off if you drive long distances in one go, regularly travel as three or four, or want to make a good impression on clients. Compared with the compact class, you mainly gain refinement, legroom and boot space. For purely urban driving, though, you're paying for space you'll hardly use.
Saloon or estate?
Many mid-size models come in both versions. The saloon looks more elegant and is popular for business appointments, while the estate offers far more load space for holidays, a dog or bulky items. Think about what you want to carry beforehand and filter by category accordingly.
