Frequently asked questions

Support & help›When does the weekend rate start and end?
Each rental company sets this itself; Friday to Sunday or Friday to Monday is common. The exact pick-up and return times are shown in the offer or agreed with the confirmation.
Is the included mileage enough for a weekend trip?
That depends on your destination. Check the included kilometres in the offer and add up the journey there and back plus any outings. If it's not enough, a mileage package is usually cheaper than individual extra kilometres.
When should I book for a long weekend?
As early as possible, especially for bank holidays and bridge days. You'll have more choice then, particularly for convertibles, people carriers and popular models. Check the cancellation terms in case your plans change.
Can I return the car on Sunday evening?
Some rental companies allow returns on Sunday, for example via a key box, others only on Monday morning. The return time is part of the agreement, so clarify it beforehand so you aren't charged an extra day.
Can someone else drive on the weekend trip?
Yes, if that person is registered as an additional driver. Many rental companies charge a fee per day for this, and the additional driver must also meet the minimum age and licence-holding period.
Can I drive abroad on my weekend trip?
If the rental company allows it. State your destination in your request, as you often need a cross-border authorisation, which sometimes costs extra. For trips to Austria or Switzerland, remember the vignette.
What is Rentlo?
Rentlo is a marketplace for all kinds of rental vehicles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You rent directly from verified local rental companies.
How does renting in Bavaria work?
Choose a vehicle, pick your dates and send a request. Once the rental company confirms, you pay securely online and collect the car or have it delivered.
When do I pay?
Only once the rental company has confirmed your request. Payment runs via Stripe.
Which payment methods are available?
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay, iDEAL and Klarna. For some vehicles you can pay 10 % online and the rest in cash at pick-up.
Show all 16 questions
Do I have to pay a deposit?
The rental company decides per vehicle. Many deposits can be paid online; otherwise on site.
How old do I need to be?
Minimum age and licence duration are shown on each vehicle.
How is the vehicle insured?
Vehicles are insured by the rental company, which sets cover and excess.
What is the best price guarantee?
Rental companies offer their vehicles on Rentlo at the same price as directly. Found it cheaper? Let us know.
Can I cancel?
Before confirmation you can withdraw for free. After that the rental company's cancellation terms apply.
Is there a Rentlo app?
Yes, for iPhone and Android, including Rentlo Shorts with real videos and sound.
Guide
Check the included mileage for your route
Work out how far away your destination is, and don't forget trips once you're there. Weekend rates often include a fixed number of kilometres. If that's not enough, a mileage package is better value than expensive individual kilometres. If your trip goes abroad, have it approved by the rental company in advance.
Book early for bank holidays and long weekends
Long weekends around Easter, Whitsun or bridge days are especially popular. So send your request in good time and read the tiered cancellation terms in case the weather doesn't play along. If you're flexible, pick a weekend outside the school holidays, as the choice is often bigger then.
The right car for a short break
For a city break for two, a compact car that fits into any parking space is enough. For hiking gear or a small group's luggage, an estate or people carrier is more comfortable. And if the journey is the point, a convertible or sports car turns the trip into an experience, though a higher minimum age and a higher deposit usually apply.
