Support & help›How does a Rentlo voucher work?
You give a voucher that the recipient redeems when booking on Rentlo. They choose the car, location and date themselves and must meet the requirements of the chosen car. You'll see the voucher details when you buy it.
Can I book a rental for someone else?
Yes, you can send the request and pay. However, only someone who meets the rental company's requirements and is registered as the driver may drive. So state in your request that someone else will drive and clarify the necessary details in advance.
What does the recipient need to bring?
Usually a valid driving licence and ID, and depending on the rental company also a means of payment for the deposit. The minimum age and years of holding a licence must fit. The exact requirements are listed with every offer.
How old do you have to be to drive a dream car you've been given?
That depends on the car. Regular rental cars are sometimes available from 18, while for sports cars and luxury cars the minimum age is usually 21 to 25, often with several years of driving experience. Check this before you hand over the gift.
What if the recipient isn't free on the booked date?
With a voucher, they simply choose a date that suits them. With a fixed booking, the rental company's cancellation terms apply, which are staggered differently by each company. So pick a date that's sure to work, or ask the rental company about rebooking.
What is Rentlo?
Rentlo is a marketplace for all kinds of rental vehicles in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You rent directly from verified local rental companies.
How does renting in Bavaria work?

When do I pay?
Only once the rental company has confirmed your request. Payment runs via Stripe.
Which payment methods are available?
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay, iDEAL and Klarna. For some vehicles you can pay 10 % online and the rest in cash at pick-up.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
The rental company decides per vehicle. Many deposits can be paid online; otherwise on site.

Yes, for iPhone and Android, including Rentlo Shorts with real videos and sound.
Guide
Present it nicely
A printed voucher with a photo of the dream car makes more of an impression than an email. With a fixed booking, the car can be waiting outside the door for the handover if the rental company offers delivery. Plan a backup date in case the weather or schedules don't cooperate.
Voucher or fixed booking?
A Rentlo voucher is the flexible choice: the recipient picks the car, location and date themselves. A fixed booking works if you know their dream car and schedule exactly, for example for a birthday surprise. In that case, check the requirements especially carefully beforehand.
Check the recipient's requirements
For the rental, what counts is not who pays but who drives. The recipient must meet the car's minimum age and licence requirements and be registered as the driver. Especially with sports cars, the requirements are often higher than for regular rental cars.
