Support & help›Do I need a credit card?
Not necessarily. On this page you'll find cars where you can also pay the deposit in cash, by bank transfer, via PayPal or in another way. The rental price itself can be paid with PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay or card, for example.
Which documents do I need?
Usually a valid ID card or passport and your original driving licence. Some rental companies also require a minimum age or a certain number of years since you got your licence. The exact requirements are listed with each offer.
Can I rent without any deposit at all?
Some rental companies offer individual cars without a deposit. You can tell from the deposit type in the offer and with the filter. Other conditions may apply instead, for example regarding the protection package or the excess. So read the rental terms carefully.
What about Austria and Switzerland?
There, too, credit checks are the exception for short rentals. For longer rental periods, some providers in Austria ask for a report, for example from KSV1870, and in Switzerland for an extract from the debt enforcement register. What applies in each case is decided by the rental company.
Can I get a rental car despite a negative Schufa entry?
In many cases, yes, because Schufa usually plays no role in short-term rentals. Only the rental company can promise this, as it reviews and confirms your request. Ideally choose a car with a cash or bank transfer deposit and ask in advance if you're unsure.

Paying the deposit without a credit card
For many rental companies, a credit card is mainly a form of security. On this page you'll find cars where other options are possible: cash at pick-up, bank transfer, PayPal, sometimes your own car as collateral or, where offered, no deposit at all. If you pay by bank transfer, allow a few days so the money arrives in time.
How to improve your chances
Send a complete request in good time and have your ID and driving licence ready. A car from a cheaper class often has a lower deposit than a premium model. Also note that payment methods such as buy now, pay later or instalments may trigger a separate credit check by the payment provider.
Long-term rental and car subscriptions
The longer the rental, the more likely providers are to want to know more about you. For monthly rentals or car subscriptions, credit checks are much more common than for a rental of a few days. For long periods, ask the rental company in advance which documents they need.
