Support & help
Which licence do I need for a quad bike?

In Germany, a category B licence is usually enough for road-legal quads. Light quads up to 45 km/h can be ridden with AM, which is included in B. Depending on the vehicle class and country, different rules may apply, so check the details in the offer.

Can I take the quad off-road?

Only on land where it's expressly permitted, such as off-road tracks or on guided tours. Riding in forests, fields and nature reserves is prohibited. Many rental contracts also exclude off-road riding, so clarify this beforehand.

Do I have to wear a helmet on a quad?

Generally yes. In Germany, helmets are compulsory on open quads with a top speed over 20 km/h unless seat belts are fitted and worn. Some rental companies rent out helmets for an extra charge.

Can two people ride a quad?

Only if the quad is approved for two people, which is shown in the vehicle details. With a passenger, the handling changes noticeably, especially in bends and when braking.

How old do I have to be to rent a quad bike?

Each rental company sets its own rules. Besides the required licence, many ask for a minimum age and some driving experience. You'll find the conditions with every offer.

Is renting quads a good idea for groups?

Yes, quads are popular for birthdays, stag and hen dos and company outings. If you need several vehicles, ask in good time and check whether the rental company also offers a guided tour. All riders must meet the requirements.

Guide

Helmet and gear

A helmet is generally compulsory on a quad, and gloves, sturdy shoes and protective clothing make sense too. Some rental companies rent out helmets. A passenger may only ride along if there is an approved seat for them, which is shown in the vehicle details.

Off-road only where it's allowed

You can't just ride a quad into forests, fields or meadows: off public roads, only on designated tracks or with the landowner's permission. Guided tours are a good way to ride off-road legally. Violations can be expensive and are usually excluded in the rental contract too.

Riding technique for beginners

You steer a quad with the handlebars, not by leaning; in bends you shift your weight to the inside. Ride slowly at first, especially on loose ground and slopes. At handover, have the brakes, throttle and, if fitted, four-wheel drive explained to you.
