Which vehicle class can I choose as an accident replacement car?
Usually a comparable vehicle is reimbursed; choosing one class below your own car is often on the safe side. What counts as appropriate depends on the individual case, so clarify this in advance with the insurer responsible.
What is loss-of-use compensation?
If you do without a rental car after an accident in Germany that wasn't your fault, you may be entitled to a flat daily amount instead of the rental costs. Whether that's worthwhile depends on how much you rely on a car. Get advice on this from your insurer or a lawyer.
Can I extend the rental if the repair takes longer?
That's often possible, but not guaranteed. It depends on whether the car is already booked afterwards. Ask the rental company as early as possible and have the extension confirmed.

If you don't need a car every day, loss-of-use compensation may be an option in Germany instead of a rental car: a flat daily amount without a replacement vehicle. Which is more sensible in your case depends on how much you rely on the car. Get advice on this from your insurer, a motoring club or a lawyer.
Flexible rental period and prices
Repairs and delivery times often slip. Ask the rental company in advance whether and how you can extend the rental and what an early return means. Many rental companies lower the daily rate for longer rentals, and there's often a monthly rate for 28 days. For longer periods, pay particular attention to the included mileage.
Delivery to the garage or your home
Some rental companies bring the replacement car straight to you or to the garage for a fee. Look for the note “Delivery available”. That saves you a trip without a car. Take photos of the vehicle at handover and note the fuel level and mileage.
