If you weren't at fault, the other party's motor liability insurance generally covers the cost of a rental car to a reasonable extent. Whether and to what extent this applies in your case is something to clarify with the insurer or a lawyer before renting. Rentlo doesn't provide legal advice and doesn't promise that costs will be covered.
Which vehicle class can I choose as an accident replacement car?
Usually a comparable vehicle is reimbursed; choosing one class below your own car is often on the safe side. What counts as appropriate depends on the individual case, so clarify this in advance with the insurer responsible.
What is loss-of-use compensation?
If you do without a rental car after an accident in Germany that wasn't your fault, you may be entitled to a flat daily amount instead of the rental costs. Whether that's worthwhile depends on how much you rely on a car. Get advice on this from your insurer or a lawyer.
Can I extend the rental if the repair takes longer?
That's often possible, but not guaranteed. It depends on whether the car is already booked afterwards. Ask the rental company as early as possible and have the extension confirmed.
Can I hire a replacement car for several weeks?
Yes, many rental companies offer weekly and monthly rates, and a monthly rental on Rentlo covers 28 days. That works well if, for example, delivery of your new car is delayed. Check the included mileage so it covers your everyday driving.

Delivery to the garage or your home
Some rental companies bring the replacement car straight to you or to the garage for a fee. Look for the note “Delivery available”. That saves you a trip without a car. Take photos of the vehicle at handover and note the fuel level and mileage.
After an accident: clarify first, then rent
If you weren't at fault in an accident, the other party's motor liability insurance will generally cover the cost of a rental car, but only to a reasonable extent, for example in terms of vehicle class and rental period. Clarify this with the insurer or a lawyer before renting, as the details depend on the individual case and the country. Neither Rentlo nor the rental companies can promise that costs will be covered: you sign the rental agreement yourself and pay the rental company. Keep the rental agreement and invoice for the claim.
Loss-of-use compensation as an alternative
If you don't need a car every day, loss-of-use compensation may be an option in Germany instead of a rental car: a flat daily amount without a replacement vehicle. Which is more sensible in your case depends on how much you rely on the car. Get advice on this from your insurer, a motoring club or a lawyer.
